2017 Educational Forum

We are excited for the Second Annual for MOM. for Baby. for Life. Educational Forum, providing excellent speakers on the latest topics in L&D and NICU. We feel like last year’s event was ok, but we learned and will continue to make each year’s the best yet. This year will be no different. We have lined up some of the best possible speakers from L&D and the NICU, and have some fun activities and prizes lined up as well. M. Terese Verklan, RNC, CCNS, PhD, FAAN

Dr. M. Terese Verklan graduated from the University of Manitoba with her BSN and a BA in sociology. She received her MSN in perinatology and her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a Professor and Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In addition, Terese currently works as a consultant to her professional organizations as well as healthcare companies such as Clinical Innovations, GE Middle East and GE Worldwide on matters related to the care of the healthy and high-risk neonate. Her program of research was funded by the Eunice Shriver Kennedy National Institute of Child Health and Development. Terese is a co-editor of Core Curriculum for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing, a textbook used worldwide as a reference for the care of sick babies, as well as the creator of the Neonatal Orientation and Education Program. She has been a guest editor for JOGNN’s Clinical Issues, Critical Care Clinics of North America and is a contributing editor for the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing. She is well published in both the clinical and the research literature. In 2011, she was awarded the national Award of Excellence in Education by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.

Carol J. Harvey- MS

Carol J Harvey, MS, is an internationally renowned nurse, researcher and speaker with over 20 years of experience. She has presented throughout the U.S., Central America, South America and Europe. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, the most recent being the 2013 March of Dimes “Nurse of the Year in Women’s Health”, for the Atlanta Area. She is an active member AWHONN as well as many other professional organizations and has Chaired and Co-chaired Specialist Interest Groups, National Committees and Practice Standards Work Groups. She has authored of over 100 publications including books, chapters, and articles on healthcare topics. Carol was selected by AWHONN to be an Editor for the new AWHONN’s High Risk & Critical Care Obstetrics, 3th Edition, (2013). Additionally, she has been featured in numerous AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring and Critical Care Obstetrics videos, and authored the March of Dimes’ Module Hemodynamic Monitoring of the Critically Ill Obstetric Patient, 2nd Edition. Currently, Ms. Harvey maintains an active practice as a Clinical Specialist for Women’s Services in one of the largest delivery hospitals in the U.S., and additionally works with the organization’s administration on broad projects that cross-over all specialties.
