Study    Comparison of Two Intrauterine Pressure Catheters During Labor

Study    Extraovular placement of intrauterine pressure catheters in laboring patients

A study explaining that placement of IUPCs outside the amniotic membranes occurs at a higher rate than most clinicians suspect. This can result in artifactual pressure readings and complications such as placental perforation or abruption, uterine perforation, and fetal heart rate tracing abnormalities. When amniotic fluid flashback is visualized in the Koala’s clear lumen during insertion, placement in the amniotic space is assured, thus reducing potential complications.

Study    Extramembranous Placement of an Air-Coupled vs. Transducer-Tipped Intrauterine Pressure Catheter – A Randomized Comparison

A study that compares the rate of extramembranous placement (outside the amniotic membranes) between two types of intrauterine pressure catheters—the Koala Air-Coupled IUPC and the Intran® Plus Transducer-Tipped IUPC. The study demonstrated that transducer-tipped catheters were significantly more likely to be placed in the extramembranous space than were air-coupled catheters.
